ABSTRACT
The MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region has emerged as a significant player in the global esports
and gaming industry, driven by high mobile internet penetration, a large young population, and rising
interest in digital technologies. In 2021, the UAE led the regional market with $6.44 million in
revenue, while Egypt had the highest number of esports users, and Saudi Arabia saw significant growth in
its esports fan base. The 18-24 age group dominates the Saudi gaming scene. Key factors propelling the
industry's growth include high-income levels, public investment projects, economic diversification
efforts, and strong government support for esports. The UAE, particularly Dubai, is positioning itself
as a global esports hub with ambitious initiatives like the Metaverse Strategy and the Dubai Program for
Gaming 2033. The region is also notable for the inclusion of women gamers, who make up about 32.6% of
gamers in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. With continued government support, increasing investment,
and a vibrant community, the MENA gaming industry is poised for substantial growth in the coming years.
